Adult Orthodontics

Orthodontics is not just for kids. Adults come to Anchor Orthodontics for treatment planned by Dr. Courtney Lavigne, whose background sets her apart. Before becoming an orthodontist she spent years in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, so she plans an adult case with the final look and function of your smile in mind, not just whether the teeth are straight. We treat adults at both our Providence and Wakefield offices.

Options that fit an adult life

Most adults want treatment that is discreet and works around their schedule. We offer Invisalign and other clear aligners, tooth-colored LightForce custom braces, and traditional braces, and we help you choose the one that fits your case and your life. Dr. Lavigne is a board-certified orthodontist who is also an Accredited Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a distinction held by fewer than 1% of dentists worldwide, so the look of the result is part of the plan from day one.

Expansion without surgery, using MSE and MARPE

Adults who were told years ago that they had missed the window for jaw expansion often have not. Dr. Lavigne has advanced training in MSE and MARPE, mini-screw and micro-implant assisted techniques that widen the palate without the jaw surgery this once required. She has personal experience with adult expansion, and for the right patient it can open the airway and create room without extracting healthy teeth.

Straightening before restorative work

If you are planning implants, veneers, or crowns, doing orthodontics first can set the teeth up so the final restorative work looks and functions better. This is where Dr. Lavigne's restorative background pays off, and we coordinate directly with your dentist so the sequence is right.

Curious whether treatment makes sense for you? No referral is needed to get started at either our Providence or Wakefield office.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?

No. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and a large share of our patients at both offices are adults. The evaluation looks at your gums, bone, and any existing dental work, and the plan is built around them.

I don't want visible braces. What are my options?

Most adults choose clear aligners or LightForce tooth-colored ceramic brackets. Both are discreet, and which one we recommend depends on the movements your bite actually needs.

How is Anchor different for adult patients?

Dr. Lavigne practiced cosmetic dentistry for a decade before specializing in orthodontics, so your plan accounts for implants, veneers, and the final aesthetics of your smile, not just tooth alignment. She is the only practitioner in the country who is both a board-certified orthodontist and an Accredited Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AAACD), a distinction held by fewer than 1% of dentists worldwide. Dr. Cardarelli brings deep experience with clear aligners, customized braces, and temporary anchorage devices, backed by a Master of Dental Science and a national award-winning research background.

Can orthodontics work around my crowns, implants, and veneers?

Yes, and it should be planned that way from the start. Implants cannot move, so treatment is sequenced around them, and if you are planning future cosmetic work, aligning the teeth first usually produces a better and more conservative result. We coordinate directly with your dentist.
