Once a family in Wakefield decides their child is ready for orthodontic treatment, the next question is almost always the same: braces or Invisalign. Both can deliver a beautiful result. A lot of parents come in asking specifically for Invisalign. I understand why, it is the most recognized name out there. But I explain it this way: Invisalign is to clear aligners what Kleenex is to tissues. It is a brand, the biggest and best known, but one of several. At our Wakefield and Providence offices we work with Invisalign and other aligner systems, and we choose the one that will get a given child to the finish line most efficiently. The aligner is just the tool. The prescription behind it is what matters.
Clear aligners work well for children and teens with mild to moderate crowding or spacing who are responsible enough to wear them. And that is the real catch. Aligners only work when they are in the mouth, and our target is almost all day, with them out only for eating and drinking anything other than water. A motivated kid can absolutely do this. A child who loses retainers and forgets backpacks may struggle, and we would rather talk about that honestly upfront than watch treatment stall. For more significant bite problems, skeletal issues, or complex tooth movements, braces give us more precise control and a more predictable result. The braces we use are not what most parents remember. At both locations we use LightForce brackets, custom 3D-printed to the shape of each individual tooth, which makes them more comfortable and more efficient than traditional braces. We also offer clear braces for families who want a lower profile look. For younger children in early treatment, braces pair naturally with expanders and other appliances in a way aligners usually do not.
